VIKINGS defeat SILVERWOLVES 3-2
The Vikings traveled to Riverton on Tuesday to play the Silverwolves for the 2nd time this season with pay back on their minds, after losing in their first meeting. It was a great day for tennis with the temperature at 85 and some light winds blowing it was a perfect setting. The Vikings were ready to play after listening the pre-match cheer by the Silverwolves which sounded more like something you would hear at an ALL STAR wrestling match. The cheer did more to fire up PG then it helped Riverton. The Vikings were able to win the match 3-2 and nearly got it 4-1 but Jake Harris lost a very tough "Marathon" (big surprise right?) match that lasted 3 hours and went to a tie break in the 3rd. There were 2 other matches that went 3 sets, Nick Olsen after losing the first set decided he wasn't going to lose another and came back HUGE!!!! Winning the next two easily. Next our 2nd doubles team Zach Olsen & Ryan Clifford not only had to over come the lose of a first set, but the mouth of their opponents who were very loud and at times very unsportsmanlike. To their credit, despite all the jawing and distractions from this team, Zach & Ryan stayed focused and dismissed the 2 loud mouths easily the next to sets. I was very proud of the entire team and the way everyone played. The win for PG as a team pushed the Vikings season record to 5 and 3 with only 2 region matches to go heading into Region play next weekend, followed by STATE the next week. If the Vikings can win the next 2 it would put them in a great position for the Region tournament. Thanks to all of the parents and friends who came out and supported us in Riverton! Please do the same for the next 2 as well. We play American Fork on Thursday at their place and finish the season against Lone Peak on Friday at home.
